RAVENNA FESTIVAL

Ravenna, 5 June-16 July 2019

Once the capital of the Western Roman Empire, Ravenna hosts a summer music festival every year. The Byzantine basilicas, cloisters and piazzas provide the venues. The festival includes, apart from opera and classical music, jazz, films, dance and exhibitions. www.ravennafestival.org

COMO CITY OF MUSIC FESTIVAL

Como, Lake Como, 11 – 14 July 2019

First held in 2008, Festival Como Città della Musica involves the whole town: from the Arena of Teatro Sociale of Como to the neoclassical villas with their cloisters, courts and medieval towers such as the Torre del Baradello) and hidden Gardens and the park of Villa del Grumello from dawn to night. www.comofestival.org

UMBRIA JAZZ

Perugia, 18-22 April 2019

Started in 1973, Umbria Jazz takes music usually heard in small clubs and concert halls into the historic town squares of Umbria to audiences of up to twenty thousand young people, and every concert was free. The music of the New World was performed in the setting of Umbria’s medieval towns, an unusual combination which gave the Festival its special appeal. www.umbriajazz.com

CLAZZ, INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF CLASSICAL MUSIC AND JAZZ

Arcidosso, Mount Amiata in Tuscany, 19 July – 5 August 2019

The medieval village of Arcidosso on Mount Amiata in Tuscany hosts this festival which combines classical music and jazz. PUCCINI FESTIVAL

Torre del Lago, 12 July – 24 August 2019

Created by Giacomo Puccini himself in 1930 and has continued yearly. The festival takes place in the open air theatre of Torre Del Lago (Tuscany), located a few steps from “Villa Mausoleum”, the house where Puccini lived and worked. Operas this year are: La Fanciulla del West, Madame Butterfly, Turandot, La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Aida, Manon Lescaut. www.puccinifestival.it

SFERISTERIO OPERA FESTIVAL

Macerata, 19 July – 11 August 2019

The success of the Macerata Opera Festival has been largely due to the uniqueness of the Sferisterio’s stage space. Designed in 1823 by architect Ireneo Aleandri, the theatre takes its name and half circumferenceshaped from the game that was played within its walls: the “armband ball” or “Pallone col bracciale”. Red as desire (#rossodesiderio) is the theme for the 2019 Macerata Opera Festival, expressed by jealousy, power and possession in Carmen, Macbeth and Rigoletto. www.sferisterio.it

A festival dedicated to the music and culture of America in the ’40s and ’50s with live concerts -rock’n’roll, jive, rhythm’n’blues, hill-billy and westernswing. LA NOTTE DELLA TARANTA

Salento, Puglia, August 2019 in Melpignano

La Notte della Taranta is attended every summer  by over 200.000 from all over the world. Started in 1998, as an initiative by Grecìa Salentina (Union composed by 11 Municipalities close to Lecce). Every year the Festival arranges a set of concerts around the Municipalities of Grecìa Salentina
