New twice weekly route to Malta from Cork from April 2019

     The new Ryanair route to Malta from Cork Airport will commence on the 4th April 2019. The service will operate twice weekly as part of the airline's summer 2019 schedule. The outbound flights will depart Cork at 18.20 on Thursdays and 18.40 on Sundays while the return flights will depart Malta at 15.10 on Thursdays and 15.30 on Sundays. The flights will take approx. 3 hour 45 mins.
     The new Cork route will provide Ireland with nearly 400 extra seats a week capacity to Malta in the summer months. This is in addition to the existing Ryanair flights from Dublin to Malta which flies five times per week in the summer and three times per week in the winter.

     This year, Malta has seen a significant increase in visitor numbers as its capital city Valletta celebrates being the European Capital of Culture 2018 with a variety of exciting events and exhibitions. From January – September 2018 Malta has seen a 20% increase in visitor numbers from Ireland compared to the same period last year.
Tourism Increases
     Figures also show that tourism increases are taking place during all twelve months of the year. Malta is also growing in popularity among the younger age groups with above average growth being recorded in the 25 - 44 age bracket.
     Overall the total number of visitors to Malta from January – September 2018 is 2,063,457, an increase of 15.2% (272,494 tourists) when compared to the same period in 2017.
     Commenting on the new route from Cork, Peter Vella, Director of the Malta Tourism Authority for the UK & Ireland said “The Maltese have a strong affinity for the Irish and we are thrilled to launch the new Cork to Malta route. It will help facilitate the growing number of people travelling to Malta from Ireland by making our destination even more accessible.”
