What's On TV this week, apart from the World Cup
Brazil and the World Cup will be the big armchair destination this week but there are other places to visit. Dublin for Bloomsday, June 16, but for some reason, relegated to the day after , is John Huston's film, The Dead, (RTÉ One, 12:55am-2:25am Tuesday June 17) based on the James Joyce short story, set in turn of the 19th century Dublin. A new series, Bóther go dtí an White House explores Irish influences in American politics, states off with Richard `Boss' Croker (TG4, 7:30pm Tuesday June 17), an Irish immigrant who became an influential figure in New York, gained control of the powerful and infamous Tammany Hall - the Democratic Party political machine that played a major role in controlling New York City and State politics.
Staying with TG4 and New York, Lon sa Speir, (TG4, 9:25pm Wednesday June 18) tells story behind one of the city's most iconic photographs - 11 men,sitting on a steel beam, eating lunch on top of the GE building during construction in 1932. The programme traces some of the men, identities.
The search for Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777, Flight MH 370, missing since March 8 while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing is investigated in Horizon: Where Is Flight MH370? (BBC2 N Ireland, 9:00pm Tuesday June 17). They surmise on what may have happened to the aircraft and talk to the British satellite engineers who tracked the plane's final hours. New technologies are examined, including black-box streaming and enhanced air-traffic surveillance ti make sure no airliner would ever disappear without without trace again.
Who Killed Whitney Houston? The Autopsy (TV3, 10:00pm Wednesday June 18) takes us to Hollywood USA and evidence offering an insight into what happened in the final minutes of Whitney Houston's life and the causes of her death in a Hollywood bathroom in 2012.
