----------------------The first Arabian Bedouin tent style
restaurant opens in the Maldives
It had, what is called, a soft-opened on earlier this year and within six weeks of operations shot to the number one position on TripAdvisor as North Male Atoll’s favourite destination for honeymoons.
Then comes the real opening on July 15 of Al Khaima, the first Arabian Bedouin tent style restaurant in the Maldives, will mark the official full opening of Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa Maldives.
The villa-only resort, located just 15 minutes by speedboat from Male International Airport, is adult-focused with no guests under the age of 12 years accommodated.
In addition to Al Khaima, Centara Ras Fushi has La Brezza, an Italian restaurant sited next to the lagoon, Suan Bua, which serves authentic Thai food, and Oceans, open all day and serving international and Asian cuisines. There are three bars at the resort, serving snacks in addition to drinks, with in-villa dining available 24 hours.
The resort offers the choice of a Half Board Plus package, or All Inclusive, with guests on either programme having the opportunity to dine at any of the restaurants and fully enjoy the choice and variety of the resort.
“We are very pleased to announce that Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa is now fully open, and that our guests have the choice of four fine restaurants,” says Thirayuth Chirathivat, chief executive officer of Centara Hotels & Resorts.
The resort is Centara’s second in the Maldives, the first being Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa, in South Ari Atoll. A third resort is currently under construction. Centara Ras Fushi Resort has a beachfront swimming pool, an oceanfront Spa Cenvaree, a water sports centre offering excursions and both motorised and non-motorised activities, a PADI dive centre, and free Wi-Fi.

Neil Devlin, General Manager of the Everglades Hotel in Derry~Londonderry was spitting feathers after realising a group of pranksters had waddled off with the hotel’s much-loved Everglades Culture Duck which was proudly displayed in the hotel foyer. However, after reading about the duck’s disappearance, eagle eyed Deputy Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Colin McCusker, spotted the duck boarding an Aer Lingus flight to London at Belfast City Airport and informed the Everglades Hotel staff straight away. The lucky duck was eventually tracked down and flown back on the same Aer Lingus service from Gatwick. Florence’s elegant Hotel Brunelleschi
in Dan Brown's Inferno
![]() |
View of Duomo from Hotel Brunelleschi |
“It was early evening when Langdon made his way across Piazza Elisabetta and returned to Florence’s elegant Hotel Brunelleschi. Upstairs in his room...”. Now the hotel includes a guided tour on the path of the main characters visiting some of Florence’s landmarks.
Inferno is the Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code sequel and his sixth novel. At the end of the “Da Vinci Code” novel, Professor Langdon, the protagonist, said to Sophie “We’d be living in luxury. They’re giving me a room at the Brunelleschi.” And now, in “Inferno”, the Harvard professor of symbology is called to solve a new mystery based on “The Divine Comedy” poem, a trilogy which includes Inferno (Hell) Purgatorio (Purgatory) and Paradiso (Paradise), written between 1308 and 1321 AD, a world known literary masterpiece by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri.
"Langdon exited the hotel, carrying the delicate package with him in a delicate tote bag, which he had borrowed from the concierge. The evening was unusually warm, adding to his dreamlike quality of his walk along the Via Calzaiuoli toward the lone spire of Palazzo Vecchio.".
Hotel Brunelleschi is located in the heart of Florence and boasts rooms with a view on Via dei Calzaiuoli – one of the city’s favourite shopping streets – or with a view on Florence Cathedral (Duomo), Palazzo della Signoria and Galleria degli Uffizi, shopping streets and Ponte Vecchio are walking distance. The Dome of the Cathedral is right in front of the hotel Tower suite!
The “Inferno” book cover depicts the Florence city center with the famous Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (15th century AD) and by the Italian architect Filippo Brunelleschi - hence the hotel name – and Palazzo Vecchio.

Inferno guided tour main features
The Boboli Gardens and the Mannerist Buontalenti Grotto
These wonderful gardens are located close to Pitti Palace, the ancient residence of the archdukes of Tuscany and of the Kings of Italy. The Boboli gardens were designed for the famous Florentine De Medici family and the area is like an open air museum with antique and Renaissance statues, grottoes and large fountains. It inspired many European nobles for their Italian garden designs.
The Buontalenti Grotto (1583-1588 AD)
The Grotto by architect and designer Bernardo Buontalenti was commissioned by Francesco I de’ Medici in order to complete the previous Vasari project, a complicated plan to create a huge nursery garden which was left unfinished. The facade is completely overlaid with concretions similar to stalagmites and there are also sculptures, paintings, stones, and shells that are laid out to resemble anthropomorphic figures.
The Vasari Corridor
It is not always open to the public. An elevated passageway above Ponte Vecchio which connects Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti; it displays the largest collection of self portraits in the world. In the past the Medici family members used it as a safe indoor path, far from the crowd of the Florentine streets. In the novel by Dan Brown, Robert Langdon crosses it to get to Palazzo Vecchio and escape from soldiers.
The Baptistery of St John
The Baptistery was dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the patron Saint of Florence, and is located in the very city centre of Florence, in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Inside it is rich of symbols and the most famous work of art is the Gates of Paradise made by Lorenzo Ghiberti in the 15th century. It decorates the bronze doors featuring sin and redemption themes. Robert Langdon finds there some hints to find the mask of Dante. Pay attention though: the monument opening time which appears in “Inferno” is not correct!
Palazzo Vecchio or Palazzo della Signoria and the huge Salone dei Cinquecento
The symbol of the Florentine civil power over seven centuries – it still houses the city town hall - Palazzo Vecchio is one of the city defining structures as well a panoramic point thanks to its tower (around 311 ft.) which is worth a visit. The Palace is a fascinating labyrinth of chambers, apartments and courtyards and its rooms were magnificently decorated by artists such as Giorgio Vasari, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Michelozzo.
